Chapter 9

Darkness Kingdom

Ace and Aurora walk through their portal and emerge into a place that is in Night. The stars light reflect off of Aurora’s Scales, giving it a reddish glow. Ace smiled at Her and he smiled back.  Suddenly, a scream broke the silence and they both darted towards the source of it. When they reached it, they saw a Kid being chased by what looked like a giant Ape. Ace darted over and kicked the ape into a tree. “You ok, little one?” Aurora asked, hugging the young dragon. The dragon hugged Aurora and continued to cry. “Aurora, get that kid somewhere safe. I’ll finish off this ape.” Ace said as the Ape got up. Aurora nodded and took the kid about 100 ft away behind a tree. “How dare you attack kids. What did she ever do to you?” Cried Ace, creating a blade. “Nothing. I just hate your species, dragon. Time for you to die!” cried the ape, running at him full force. “I don’t need a blade to beat you.” Whispered Ace, setting his blade on the ground. “You fool. You will die!!” yelled the ape. When the ape rammed him, it wasn’t his body he hit, but his paw.  Ace brought his other paw around and slammed into the ape’s chest, sending him flying again, this time off the cliff. They could hear it screech until there was a splat 10 seconds later. “I always hated apes.” Whispered Ace, running over to where Aurora was.

When he reached where Aurora was, she was still holding the young dragon as it continued to cry. He patted the young dragon on the head between the horns. “It’s alright, little one. Your ‘re safe now.” The dragon’s crying slowed a little into hiccupping sobs. “What is your name, little one?” Ace asked. The little dragon whimpered. “Sara.” She whispered. “Well Sara, how about we get you home, huh?” whispered Aurora. She nodded, tears still falling down her face. Aurora rubbed her back and stood up. With Ace, she darted away towards the end of the forest. The young dragon held on tight. After 2-3 hours of running, they decide to rest so that the kid can sleep. They set her down on a small bed they put together with pine leaves and grass. Within minutes, the young dragon was fast asleep. Aurora made a fire out of some old logs she found and lit them on fire. Her and Ace sat by the fire, watching the youngling’s stomach rise and fall from her steady breathing.  “Why is she out here all alone? It’s colder than usual and every creature is more than big enough to kill her.” Ace Asked, stroking the kid’s head. “She probably got lost while playing or flying around.” Aurora said, stroking her as well.

Ace grabbed some dirt from the ground, letting it blow away in the wind. “How are your parents?” Ace asked. “They’re doing well. What about your Mom?” She replied, stroking the young dragon’s head again. “She’s doing good, but I can tell she misses my dad. She talks about him every day.”  Ace replied. “My Mom and Dad told me a little about him. They Told me he was brave, strong and wise. He cared for his comrades a lot. They even said he gave his life to protect everyone from Malefor. He sounds like a hero to me.” Aurora said. Aurora turned towards Ace and saw that his eyes were closed and tears streamed down his face. “What is wrong, Ace?” She said, rubbing his back. Ace turned away. “I just wish I got to know my dad more… I miss him so much….” He whispered, tears falling to the ground below him.  “Ace….” Whispered Aurora, sitting next to Ace to comfort him. They sat that way for an hour. Ace wiped his eyes. “Sorry I’m such a big baby. I just miss him a lot…” “It’s ok to miss someone. You have nothing to apologize for.” Aurora said, kissing Ace on the cheek. He blushed. “Well, we better move off to the castle in the distance. Maybe that is where this dragon lives.” Ace said, gently lifting the dragon onto his back. “I agree. Let’s get her home as soon as possible.” Aurora said, dousing the flames on the fire.

They took off, flying north, in the direction of the castle. About an hour later, they reach the castle gate and land in front of it. They walk up to the gate, but are stopped by 2 guards. “Halt!!   What are your names and what business do you have with the king of this land?” “I am Ace, Son of Aaron and this is Aurora, Daughter of Spyro. We need to speak to your King, regarding a very important issue and it’s very urgent.” Ace replied, sliding the kid back onto his back. “Just a minute!” one of the guards said as he slipped in through a small door. Aurora and Ace waited patiently until the guard returned some time later. “The King wishes to not be disturbed. He is grieved over the loss of his daughter.” The guard replied. “Tell the King we have his daughter.” Ace replied back. The guard nodded and went through the door again. He returned 5 min later. “Come on through. He is in the room straight down the hall.” The guard said. He motioned to the other guard and they opened the gate. Ace gave his thanks and walked through the gate.

They strolled through a blue flame lit hallway with Dragon statues on each side of the walls. The floor had a bluish tint to it and sparkled in the low light. They reached the king’s room and opened the door. It was the same as the hallway, but without dragon statues. The king was standing by a window, glancing outside. “Your Majesty. Thank you for seeing us.” Said Ace, bowing. Aurora bowed as well. “You said you’ve found my daughter?” the King asked, turning to face them with solemn eyes. “If her name is Sara, yes.” Ace said, lifting Sara off his back, who was still asleep, and placed her in front of the king. The king rushed toward her and picked her up. “Where did you find her?” asked the King, motioning for them to stand. “We came through a portal from the Dragon temple and we found her being chased by an ape. She was scared out of her mind, but me managed to calm her down and get her to sleep.” Aurora replied. A tear fell down the King’s face as she woke up from her slumber. “Daddy?” she queried, looking at him through sleepy eyes. “My baby girl. *hugs her* it’s going to be ok now, sweetie.”  Sara embraced her dad back and they watched a Father-daughter reunion.

The King placed Sara on the ground and she ran off into the darkness of the castle. “Sorry for the rude introduction. My name is Theodred. How can I ever repay you for bringing my daughter back to me?” asked the King. “No need to. We are always willing to help anyone who is in need. However, we need to speak to you about something big. Do you have a moment?” Ace replied. “Sure. What is it?” asked Theodred.  Ace shut the door behind him. “You know of the Dragon Temple don’t you?” Ace queried. “Sure do. I was taken there by a friend named Aaron that I met about 19 yrs ago.” Replied Theodred. “You knew my father!?” Asked Ace. “Sure did. We were the best of pals. Always hung out together.” Replied Theodred. “Well, do you think you could help us? There is an event that is supposed to happen called the Eternal Eclipse and it is said it will wipe out the Dragon realms unless we stop it. We are defenseless at the temple because we are still recovering from the Battle with Malefor and we need a place to shelter until this Eclipse is stopped or it ends.” Ace Asked.

The King thought the situation over and glanced back over at Ace and Aurora. “Sure, why not? Bring in your people and they are free to house here. We have over a hundred spaces where they could stay. Plus, I will help you save The Dragon Realms. It’s the least I can do to repay Aaron’s kindness.” Theodred replied.  Ace and Aurora were speechless for several seconds. “Oh, Thank you so much!! We will call to have the guardians move out everyone as soon as possible.” Ace said. “I will also send some of my guards with you to escort you here safely.” He replied back. “We can’t thank you enough for your kindness. I will call them and let them know.” Aurora replied, placing the com crystal in her ear and walking out of the room. Ace turned to Theodred and spoke. “Thank you again Theodred for your kindness. Is there any way me may repay you?” “you already paid me back. You brought my daughter back to me. I’ve been searching for her for days, but nothing turned up. If I may ask, how did you find her?” Theodred replied.

“Well, you see….” Ace was interrupted by a banging on the door. Ace ran to the door and opened it to see an exhausted guard. “My liege, we have enemies approaching the castle at super speed!! They will be here in a minute or 2!!” “Oh my!! Alert the warriors immediately!!” Cried Theodred. “There’s no time. By the time you do that, they will have invaded the castle. Aurora and I will engage them and you prep the soldiers just in case they do manage to defeat both of us.” Ace replied, creating his dark armor. “Be careful my new friend.” Theodred replied, placing his paw on Ace’s shoulder. Ace nodded and Theodred hung a left out the door. Ace ran out and found Aurora just as she finished on the com crystal. She saw him and began to talk. “It’s all ready. They will move out 1st thing tomorrow.” “Aurora, we got a situation. Someone is coming to attack this castle. We need to defend it. Let’s go.” Ace said. She nodded and followed Ace as fast as she could go. They reached outside just in time just as the enemies launched an attack at the castle’s barrier. It bounced off and hit a tree in front of the castle, igniting it in flames. The enemies were an electric dragon the size of an elder dragon, 2 trolls and 10-20 apes of varying sizes.

They spotted Ace and Aurora and stopped in front of them. “Move it pests. We have no business with you. Where is Theodred?” The Dragon called. “You will not pass this point, Electric scum!” Ace replied, creating dark daggers. The dragon created a staff of pure electricity. “You don’t scare me!! Bring it on, Black Dragon!!” The dragon yelled, ordering his apes to attack them. “I’ll leave them to you, Aurora.” Ace said, stepping out of the way. Aurora slammed her paws together and all of a sudden, the earth beneath the apes fell away and magma geysers engulfed the apes, disintegrating them instantly. “Forgot to mention she is a magma dragon. She can manipulate magma to her will.” Ace said, watching magma surround her and appear as armor. The Dragon roared in fury and commanded the trolls to attack, but before they could get 20 ft, Bands of hot magma wrapped around them and pulled them into a crack in the earth. It sealed off seconds later.  The Dragon’s mouth hung open as he was the only one left standing. Aurora then wrenched the ground and Magma began to push them upwards about 50 ft. She then sealed off all sides of the arena with magma.

“Don’t even think of escaping. This magma will disintegrate you in 5 seconds flat if you try to leave. You have no choice but to stay.” Aurora explained. “Doesn’t matter to me. You will both be dead in a matter of minutes!” Cried The Dragon, launching a bolt of lightning at Aurora. Ace jumped in the front of her and deflected the blast through the roof. The lightning blasted away part of the roof and it filled and cooled instantly.  “You are fighting me, scales for brains!” Ace said, swinging the knives until they lined up with his arms. “So be it!!” Cried The Enemy Dragon. The Dragon’s staff turned into a 10 ft long blade and he rushed Ace. Ace ran from Aurora to lure the Dragon away from her and jumped over him as he slashed at his stomach. Ace brought the knives down on the dragon’s wings and the enemy roared as Ace felt his blades slice the membrane. The Dragon’s wings began to drip blood. Ace flew up and cried “Dark shower!!” . Hundreds of dark crystals hurtled at the dragon, but he jumped out of the way and shot another bolt at Ace, this time it connected. Ace roared and fell to the ground, twitching. The Dragon ran at him with his blade and stabbed it through Ace’s leg, going right through the dark armor. He roared furiously in pain. “Ace!!!” Cried Aurora, but unable to help him at that moment. The dragon laughed haughtily and grinned. “You can’t beat me Kid!! You might as well give up! You are weak!”

He thrusted the blade at Ace’s chest, but Ace grabbed the blade inches before his chest. The Electricity went right through him painfully as he stood up. “Nobody calls me weak!!” Ace threw the blade away and thrusted one of his daggers into the Dragon’s stomach. The electric blade vaporized away as the Enemy Dragon fell to the ground. He pulled out the dagger out as blood oozed from the gaping wound. Before he knew It, Ace was in front of him. “Dark Bind!!” Ace said as Dark tendrils wrapped around the dragon’s limbs. He tried to stand up but couldn’t. “Please don’t kill me.” The dragon pleaded. Ace stood above him. “I won’t kill you.” Before he could say anything else, another voice chimed in. it sounded malicious and evil. “You have Failed me, slave. You are of no more use to me!!” The Dragon in front of him began to convulse rapidly and after 30 seconds, the dragon was dead, blood still oozing from his wounds. Aurora lowered them to the ground and sucked the magma back into the planet. She released the rock hard barrier. “I wonder who that could’ve been.” Ace whispered to himself  as he went to inform the king of what had just happened.
