Power of Darkness 2 Chapter 11

Chapter 11
Ice Kingdom

Adan and Scalea walk through their portal and their claws click on the ice on the ground. The trees around them are covered in snow and frost and a blanket of snow was all over the ground. Scalea walked over to a boulder and tapped on it with her claw. The responding sound was a clink. They took to the air and flew north, not knowing which direction to go. After flying for what seemed like hours, a storm kicked right up and blew the cold wind and snow at them. Adan looked back and saw Scalea shaking slightly. “Are you ok?” Asked Adan, shaking some snow off himself. “It’s getting cold, Adan. I can’t fly too much longer…” Scalea said weakly as she began to fall slightly every few feet.

Adan searched frantically for a cave and spotted one about a mile off in the mountainside. He backed up a bit to fly with Scalea until they reached it 5 min later. Scalea landed clumsily on her paws and slipped and fell on her stomach. As Adan was trying to help her up, He placed his paw on her back and felt her trembling violently. “Don’t worry, I’ll start a fire.” Adan said, returning to the forest to find some tinder. He found another cave about 2 miles from theirs and found dry logs, branches and wood chunks. He carried as much as he dared in his claws and took off toward the cave, placing the wood in crystal to keep it from getting wet.

Upon returning to the cave, he placed the wood to the side and took a few pieces over to where Scalea lay. He placed them in a pyramid shape and retrieved the piece of metal he found in the other cave, created a crystal, and struck the Metal against the crystal to try and create a spark. He eventually succeeded and soon, there was a roaring flame around 1 to 2 ft tall. He sealed off 99% of the entrance with crystal, but left a corner unsealed to keep a lot of heat in, but not so much as to suffocate them. Scalea was out cold and wouldn’t wake until morning. He placed her next to the fire, Still shivering a little. He placed another log on the fire. He smiled and touched her scales again, finding out the shivering had stopped and she was breathing.  He watched the dancing flames as they warmed the cave, giving him a sense of peace.

-story to Sabra and the dragons from the temple-

Sabra stood on the edge of a trail, looking over the camp full of Dragon children, males and females. They had traveled over 20 miles in an hour and everyone was exhausted. Families were gathered next to each other, laughing with each other and giving hugs and kisses. Kids were laughing along with their parents. Sabra smiled as a few tears trickled down her face. She sure missed him. Gawain and Vince walked up to Sabra. She wiped the tears from her cheeks. “Hey Sabra, you all right?” asked Vince. “Yeah, I just miss my husband that’s all.” Sabra replied, wiping the final tear from her face. Vince and Gawain stood next to Sabra. “It’s ok to miss someone you love. There is no shame in that.” Vince said in a gentle tone. “I just wanted to be a normal family. Me, Ace and Aaron. But Malefor took that from me!!” Sabra replied angrily, slamming her paw into a tree and tears coming down her face again.

Suddenly, someone walked up behind Sabra. She rose her blade and turned around. She looked down and saw a little red dragon standing right there. The little dragon got scared and ran behind a tree. “I’m sorry little one. I didn’t mean to scare you. Come here, it’s ok.” She coaxed out the little dragon and it came up to her. “Mistress Sabra, will you keep my mommy and daddy safe?” she sounded a little shaky. Gawain bent down and placed his paw on the kid’s shoulder. “Don’t you worry, little one. We won’t let anything happen to you or anyone here. You have our word!” The kid squealed with joy. “Thank you Bigger dragons. I will tell mommy and daddy.” The Kid gave Sabra a Hug and took off towards her family. “You’re doing a good thing. It will pay off in the end. You’ll see.” Said Vince, patting her shoulder and walking off with Gawain to talk with Eridor. “Thank you…..” whispered Sabra.

-Story back to Adan and Scalea-

Scalea opened her eyes and glanced over to see Adan asleep, his chest rising and lowering. She smiled and placed another piece of wood on the fire, rekindling it back to life and walked to the crystal blocking the snow. She peeked out the open corner and saw it was still a blizzard outside. She walked back to her spot where she woke up and tried the com crystal. Nothing but static. She sighed and shut the crystal off. After another hour of trying, Adan opened his eyes. “Oh, you’re awake. Sleep well?” Scalea asked, sitting next to the fire and her scales emitting the lightest blue glow. “Yeah. It was nice. –yawns and walks over to the opened corner- How long ago did the storm abate?” Adan Asked. Scalea glanced over at him. “About 30 min ago. I was going to scout ahead, but your crystal kept me from doing so.” Scalea replied. Adan scratched his head. “Sorry.”  

He released the crystal and a cold blast of air hit them. Adan shivered a little as he took a look around. The entire landscape was blanketed in fresh powdery snow. He stepped into the snow and it went halfway up his legs. He stepped back into the cave. “Looks like we’ll have to fly again. Come here, Scalea.” Adan motioned for Scalea and she walked over to him. He placed a paw on her forehead and a thin layer of crystal formed over her scales. She tested her wings and could move them just fine. “What does this do?” Scalea asked. Adan did the same to himself. “It takes the heat or cold around us and seals that in between your scales and the layer of crystal. It is a technique I came up with myself.”  “Well, I’ll say it is genius. This will keep us warm until we find that castle. Let’s go!!” Scalea exclaimed, walking into the snow and taking flight into cold morning sky. Adan doused the fire with snow and covered it up with snow. He then joined Scalea and they flew off into the distance.

After flying for 2-3 hours of flying, they spot the hard-to-find fortress, a building that looks like it was made out of snow itself. They land just outside the castle and hide behind a couple of trees. The Fortress must have been at least 100 ft tall from what they saw at their vantage point. They look around for a way in, but, as they are doing so, Adan spots an ice shard aimed at Scalea coming straight at her. He brings up a wall of crystal and the shard shatters. “We’ve been spotted!! Let’s get into the Fortress and take cover.” They both take to the sky and fly straight at the fortress, Ice Archers shooting ice shards at them. Scalea shot poison at some of the archers, killing them instantly as Adan blocked the ice shards. They Landed at the Gate, took out the guards with crystal shards and melted the gate with Poison. They run through the open gate and hid behind a wall just as a patrol passed by them. Once the patrol goes out the gate, they both dart down the hall and pass out of sight just as the patrol peeked back in. They run and hide several more times, dodging more patrols.  They Grab 2 of the guards at the end of a patrol and  knock them out, taking their armor and walking at the end of the same patrol. The guards walk into the King’s hall, which is full of ice dragons. Adan glanced at the dragon behind and noticed his eyes glowing Red. “What is going on here?” Adan thought. The King walked out and stood in front of the throne with a Black Dragon on the right side of him. “All Hail Shadow!! Hero of Dragon kind.” The King cried out. “Shadow!! Shadow!!” the crowd chanted. “I’m glad you chose to serve me. Together, we will take down the guardians and I will rule you as supreme dragon King of all dragon kind!!” Shadow exclaimed.

“Shadow!! “Shadow!!” the crowd chanted again. “Let’s get out of here.” Adan whispered to Scalea. Scalea nodded and they headed towards the exit. When they reached the door, both of them were gripped on the necks by a burly guard. The Crowd turned to him as he dragged Adan and Scalea to the King. He throws them on the stairs on the king’s throne and they glanced up to see Shadow staring straight at them.  

“What do we have here? Traitors to the cause?”  asked an evil looking Shadow. They Both remained silent. “Silent birds, huh? Don’t worry. I’m sure this king has ways of bringing it out.” Shadow motioned to the king. Just as the king stepped in front of Adan, He was encased in a prison of crystal. “What!?” Cried Shadow. Scalea shot poison into Shadow’s eyes and he cried out in agony. The Warriors created ice blades and charged at them. Adan created some shards of crystal and threw them at the oncoming warriors. The Warriors fell over and Adan created double blades. “Scalea, grab the Portal and activate it. I’ll hold them off.” Adan said, parrying an ice blade. He threw the ice Dragon’s blade back and slashed at his chest, killing him. Scalea grabbed the portal and threw it on the floor to activate it. It would be 10-15 seconds before the portal would open. They had to hold out until then. Adan slashed at another warrior, catching him on the neck. Scalea was slashed on the back and Adan turned to See Shadow standing there. “That was quite a corrosive poison. If I didn’t use my darkness, it would of eaten my eyes away.” He said, walking up to Scalea, claws extended. “Now it’s your turn to join my father in the abyss. Die!!” Shadow slashed at  Scalea, but was stopped by Adan. The Portal activated.  Adan trapped Shadow’s claws and He grabbed Scalea and they leaped through the portal, bringing the activator with them.

Sabra saw a light behind her as a portal opened and Scalea and Adan fell through it. “Scalea, Adan. Are you all right?” Asked Sabra, running up to them. “Scalea isn’t. She was slashed on the back by a Dark Dragon named Shadow.” Adan said. “Shadow?” queried Sabra, helping Scalea up. “Yes! Why?” Asked Adan. “Well, I guess he is the one taking over all the dragon worlds.” Said Sabra. All of the Guardians spotted them and came to help.
